Instructional Support Information

Welcome to the Instructional

Support Team (IST)

IST is a team approach to student success.  IST stands for Instructional Support Team. Instructional Support is a systematic intervention planning process for students who are at risk due to learning, behavioral, and/or social difficulties. The primary goal is to identify a student's instructional needs and to provide specific supports within the regular education classroom necessary for school success.

Ways to help your child be a successful middle school student

Check Powerschool with your child regularly If you need access to Powerschool, please contact the South Middle School office at 215-257-0467.

Make a Canvas observer account so you are able to access your child’s assignments and homework slide.

Directions are here: Canvas Observer Directions

Check your child’s agenda as well as the Canvas homework slide for each night’s homework.

Check regularly to see if your child’s papers are filed and their materials are organized. Folders are a good system, but some

binders work also. Many students need support for organization, especially in the beginning of the year.

Check to see if your child needs more supplies periodically.

If your child needs help with organization, please reach out to your child’s team of teachers or Mrs. Pollock the Instructional Support Specialist. They can help. Team leaders: 6th: Mrs. Andrea Plumley aplumley@pennridge.org 7th: Mrs. Sandi Hippauf shippauf@pennridge.org 8th: Mrs. Kara Grice kgrice@pennridge.org Mrs. Holly Pollock hpollock@pennridge.org.

Set up a structure for homework completion – a quiet place without distraction, a scheduled and consistent time, and check in periodically If your child is still struggling with homework, Homework Club is on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:10. There is a late bus if your child is a bus rider or you are welcome to pick them up. It’s a drop-in program, they would just go up to the library when buses are called at the end of the day.
